I recently wanted to replace the lenses in my wifes glasses as they were dropped on the floor and were both chipped. The optician in question was Specsavers and they wouldn't replace the lenses for free as they said that they do not guarantee lenses in rimless frames or something. However they could replace the lenses for £100!

That set me off on a rip-off britain crusade to find a cheaper way of replacing the lenses without getting ripped off. I found a fantastic little company based in Rotherham called www.specs-by-post.com. All I had to do was fill in this form with my prescription details then send it off with my glasses. I rung them up just to check that my glasses weren't going to disappear into the abyss and they explained the process and the price. 3 days after sending the glasses off I was in receipt of the newly fitted lenses. The total cost at time of writing was £47.70 (£35 for lenses, £10 for anti-reflection coating and £2.70 for postage).

A fantastic service by this company and a nice warm feeling that I have successfully countered the rip-off britain pratices of the high street opticians.
